Eat Local, Be Local
Looking for local & Maine at Fare Share? We made it easy for you!
On line, select the Maine & Local category on the shopping page. At the store, look for green shelf tags and labels.
Fare Share is often the first retail location for local small farmers and producers to sell their goods. We appreciate your support, as we all work together to create a more sustainable community.
What do we call local? Anything within a 25 mile radius of Fare Share (as the crow flies).
We remember when Little Lads Popcorn had no bar codes and Maine Mead was delivered from the back of an automobile.
We remember when Ian Allen, whose lovely glass flamework our shoppers purchase around the holidays, was a child running through the aisles.
We remember when it was impossible to buy local greens in December or March, or to find organic Maine asparagus at all. Thanks to Lolliepapa Farm in West Paris, and Crown O' Maine distributor, both are now possible.
When you shop at Fare Share Co-op, you not only support a local business owned by hundreds of local people (and some who are local part of the time), you support the dozens of local and Maine growers and producers whose products make up over 20% of our annual sales (and growing!)
